May 2013:  IRS UNDER SCRUTINY FOR PROFILING TEA PARTY/CONSERVATIVE GROUPS

It is a shame, but not a total shock, that the Internal Revenue Service profiled conservative groups in their tax audits the last few years. I have known, for many years now, that different administrations always have their political agendas enforced in the executive agencies, sometimes openly, but most of the time covertly. This is not unusual. However, it is about time that more Americans see this clearly and some light is shed on these reprehensible, if not illegal, actions. Don't hold your breath, since the federal government is supposedly investigating itself, I don't expect much action will be taken to remedy this situation. I hope I'm wrong.

May 2013:  IMMIGRATION REFORM IN THE NEWS ONCE AGAIN

In January 2013, President Obama announced that immigration reform is one of his top priorities during his second term. Since the President's announcement, the "Gang of 8" (eight members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, equally representing both the Republicans and Democrats) has been providing constant media announcements and discussions regarding proposed immigration bills currently being drafted in Congress. According to reports from the Gang of 8, they are working hard to have a new immigration bill ready for voting by this Spring or Summer 2013. We are hopeful that much-needed immigration reform is close, and we will keep you posted!

April 2013:  CONTINUING DELAYS IN RECEIVING TAX REFUNDS

As of April 4, 2013, there are continued delays in the receipt of the much awaited tax refunds for millions of taxpayers. The delays are caused by changes in tax regulations even as tax season 2012 is well underway. Please be patient and check your refund status on www.irs.gov and your state tax agency for more information on when you can expect your tax refunds.

January 2013:  IRS ANNOUNCES DELAYS IN e-FILING 2012 TAX RETURNS

The IRS recently announced that electronic filing is delayed to January 30, 2013. This is largely because of the changes that must be made to certain tax forms affected by the recent fiscal deal from the American Taxpayers Relief Act of 2012, passed by Congress on December 31, 2012, and signed into law by President Obama
on January 2, 2013.

January 2013:  "DEFERRED ACTION FOR CHILDHOOD ARRIVALS" ("DACA")

USCIS officially accepted applications for DACA on August 15, 2012. The USCIS shall individually review each case, and upon consideration of the application and documents submitted, using prosecutorial discretion, it may grant "DEFERRED ACTION" for two years (to defer removal/deportation action) and issue "WORK PERMITS" to certain individuals (to allow them to work legally and to obtain driver licenses and Social Security numbers) who meet the listed criteria. The Deferred Action and work permits are subject to renewal after two years.

To discuss the requirements of DACA and how this new Immigration program may help you, someone you know, or your loved ones, please call our office.
